Founded in 1746 by runaway Cossacks, who were the first to settle in the area where the Danube meets the Black Sea, Vilvoko is a must place to visit for all nature lovers.
It takes more than 3 hours to reach Vilkovo from Odessa, but you quickly forget about a long ride after we get to so-called “Ukrainian Venice” and continue our journey by boat. Here, where one of the most beautiful rivers of Europe breaks into several branches, boats are used more often than cars! We take a slow voyage around dozens of picturesque man-made islands, formed out of silt and clay, and enjoy the fabulous views over beautiful gulfs and backwaters. You might get lucky to spot fantastically beautiful European white pelicans, geese or a couple of white-tailed sea eagles! Don’t forget to bring a good camera or binoculars – the Danube bioreserve (the biggest swampland reserve in Europe!) is a real paradise for hundreds of species of rare plants, exotic animals, birds and fish!
Once we reach a point where the Danube flows into the Black Sea, we make a photo stop near “Zero kilometer” sign and let you enjoy some free time you can use to spend on the beach and have a delicious lunch with a wonderful local red wine or amazing herbal tea before we take a ride back to Odessa.
