Day Crimea excursions
Foros – Baydarsky gates – Bakhchysarai – Sevastopol – Chersonese – Cape Fiolent – Cape Sarych
14 hours
One of the best and longest excursion for ones who want to see majestic mountains and towns & sea, stretched under them; to visit historical places and sights of Crimea, to hear a rumble of the mountains wind and a hum of the sea surf. You’ll leave Yalta early morning and make the first stop near the famous Foros church on the mountain. If you are brave enough you may try to stand close to the breakage and to enjoy the view of the sea and town Foros.
Then you’ll pass though the Baydarsky gates of Crimean mountains and drive though the famous Crimean nature park to Bakhchysarai – 15th cent. capital of the Crimean Khanate. The city was constructed by local master builders, Ukrainian and Russian captives, as well as by master builders from Iran, Italy, and Turkey. For sure you’ll be impressed by an old magnificent Khan’s Palace (16th-18th c.) and the Fountain of Tears which inspired Pushkin to write the poem The Fountain of Bakhchisarai. Also you may visit (you have to discuss this extra option with your guide) one of the oldest culture monument of Crimea – 8th c. Uspensky (Dorminition) Cave Church, which is hewn out of a cliff.
And at the afternoon you’ll arrive to Sevastopol – one of the best-known cities in the Crimea. Seaport and an industrial, scientific, and cultural center of Ukraine built on the site where during the 5th-6th B.C. Chersonese city-state was the bastion of the Byzantine Empire on the northern shore of the Black Sea. In May 1783 the first 17 ships of the Black Sea fleet cast anchors in present-day Akhtialsky harbor. Construction of the port and military settlement was begun. You’ll see monuments to heroes who defended Sevastopol during the Russo-Turkish War of 1854-1855 and during the Soviet-German War of 1941-1944. Observe other historical sights of Sevastopol. And after lunch in Sevastopol restaurant you’ll go to ruins of the city of Chersonese Taurice, located in the western part of Sevastopol on the Heraclian Peninsula. And then – go back to Yalta along the Black sea. Really, unforgettable journey!
